What makes a great smoothie?
At its simplest, smoothies should taste good and be good for you. A smoothie made right, with the right ingredients should give you long-lasting energy rather than the spikes and crashes you would get from caffeine or processed sugars. Smoothies are also great to get nutrient-dense foods like kale into your diet even if you don't particularly enjoy eating kale by itself.
Be on the lookout for our "All About Kale" blog post to learn more about the benefits of kale and the best ways to enjoy this amazing superfood.
A Simply Clean Smoothie is a great way for those of us with a sweet tooth to satisfy the craving without reaching for the box of cookies.
Today's smoothie can be made in minutes and will give you clean energy for hours without the crash.

Directions

Combine all of the above into a blender and blend until you have a smooth consistency. For best results, use a high-speed blender such as the Nutra Ninja or Bullet. If you're using a "normal" blender we have some tips to still make a great smoothie. Layer the ingredients from easy to difficult to blend.

1. Put in your water first. By starting with the water, your blender can create a vortex that sucks in the other ingredients down into the blades.

2. Put in powders and freeze-dried fruits/vegetables next.

3. Add ice last. Being the hardest thing to blend, this needs to be last to allow proper suction down into the blades.

4. Use different blending speeds. Instead of starting off at the highest speed, start by blending on low getting the liquids, powders, and other ingredients going. After 15-30 seconds, ramp up to the higher speeds required to get your ice down into the consistency you want.
